Why timber-look porcelain?
Everyone loves the warmth of a timber floor - and everyone knows its weaknesses. It swells in wet areas, scratches under furniture and pets, fades in the sun and needs sanding and re-coating every few years. Timber-look porcelain gives you the warmth, grain and plank format of real wood with none of those compromises. It’s become one of the most popular floors in Sydney, especially in homes that want a single warm floor flowing from the living room through to the bathroom and out to the alfresco. Here’s how to choose it.

Where real timber can’t go - but tiles can
This is the whole point of the look. Timber-look porcelain is fully waterproof, so it’s perfect in exactly the places real wood fails:
- Bathrooms & laundries - a warm plank floor in a wet area, with no swelling or water damage. Pair it with the right slip rating and you have a spa-like, timber-warm bathroom.
- Outdoors & pool surrounds - the warm decked look that never greys, splinters or needs oiling. See our outdoor & alfresco range.
- Busy living floors - scratch-resistant under chairs, kids and dogs; no dents from heels or furniture.
- Kitchens - warmth underfoot that wipes clean and doesn’t stain from spills.
Tones, from warm to Nordic
Plank tone sets the mood of the whole room. Our range spans the spectrum: warm honey timbers like Sonora for a relaxed, inviting feel; pale, cool Nordic timbers like Torvik for bright, Scandi-style interiors that feel light and airy; and rich, deep timbers like Bellver for cosy, characterful spaces that pair beautifully with stone and greenery. Lighter planks make a room feel larger and more contemporary; darker planks add warmth and intimacy. It’s worth seeing samples against your wall colour and joinery, because timber tones shift a lot under different light.
Plank sizes, finishes and laying patterns
Timber-look tiles come in true plank proportions - commonly 200×1200 - for a convincing floorboard look, with a natural matte finish and subtle surface texture that mimics real grain. The way you lay them changes the feel entirely: a brick-bond / offset (staggered) pattern is the classic floorboard look, while herringbone and chevron bring a designer, parquet-style elegance that’s very on-trend in renovated terraces across the Inner West (Newtown, Balmain) and the Eastern Suburbs (Bondi, Coogee). For long, narrow planks, a tiler will usually recommend a modest offset rather than a 50% brick-bond to keep the floor sitting perfectly flat.
Order around 10% extra
Plank tiles, and especially herringbone or chevron layouts, generate more offcuts than square tiles - so allow roughly 10% extra over the measured area for a standard offset lay, and a little more (around 12-15%) for herringbone and chevron. Keeping spares from the same batch ensures any future repair or room extension matches. We’ll calculate the right quantity for your chosen pattern when you request a quote.
