Splashbacks: easy to clean, hard to date
A splashback’s first job is to protect the wall and wipe down in seconds, so a glazed, non-porous finish is ideal behind the stove and sink. The subway tile - our Metro Classic in crisp gloss ceramic - remains the most-requested splashback in Sydney for good reason: stack it for a contemporary look, brick-bond it for the classic, or run it in herringbone for a designer twist. For something more seamless, a marble-look slab-style splashback in 600×1200 gives you the drama of stone with grout lines you can count on one hand. Concrete-look and stone-look porcelains also make calm, modern splashbacks that read as one quiet surface.
Floors: tough, grippy and forgiving
Kitchen floors take a beating, so durability and a sensible amount of grip matter. A matte porcelain with an R10 finish is the sweet spot - safe underfoot when something splashes, but still easy to mop. Hard-wearing stone-look and concrete-look ranges like Baltico, Surface 2.0 and Amstel are built exactly for this, and big formats (600×600 and up) keep the floor looking expansive and uncluttered. If your kitchen flows into open-plan living, choosing one floor tile throughout makes the whole space feel larger and more resolved.

Sizes, finishes and a word on grout
Splashback tiles run from compact subway formats (75×150, 100×200) to full slab-look 600×1200 panels; floor tiles are typically 600×600, 600×1200 and 800×800. A darker or tone-matched grout on a kitchen floor stays looking fresh far longer than brilliant white. For the splashback, a grout that matches the tile gives a seamless look, while a contrast grout makes a subway pattern pop - both are valid; it’s a design choice we’ll talk through with you.
Order around 10% extra
For both splashback and floor, order roughly 10% more than the measured area. Splashbacks have lots of small cuts around windows, power points and the rangehood; floors need waste for cuts and the odd breakage. Keeping a few spare tiles from the same batch means a future repair will match perfectly. We’ll calculate the right quantity for your kitchen when you request a quote.
